PERSONALITY
Molly is an impish firecracker of a girl who boasts a raucous nature and an overwhelming Daddy complex.

It is impossible to discuss Molly without examining her relationship with her father, who, though she will vehemently deny it, has been and continues to be the greatest influence in her life. Saying the two have a rocky relationship is a start, but it goes much further than that. From her earliest memories, Percy has made Molly feel as if she had to squeeze herself into a very specific mould, and while this parental pressure to strive for excellence might have worked on some, over the years it has had the exact opposite effect from desired. Rather than question what she can do to make her father proud, Molly’s decision making process all too frequently considers how displeased she can make her father.

Put frankly, Molly Weasley revels in being a disappointment to her parents. When asked what she’s been doing with herself since leaving Hogwarts, she doesn’t hesitate to launch into a jovial recap of bouncing from one dead-end job to another. Rather than feeling shame in what others perceive as failure, she takes pride in her lack of achievement and insists that she’s a free spirit. She very highly values marching to one’s own drum beat and will champion others looking to break free of expectation. Happiness is far more important in life than success, to her. She may not at all understand why something makes someone happy, but she maintains a ‘whatever floats your boat’ attitude and is not easily scandalised. That said, while she is generally very accepting, if not approving, doing something simply because you’re living up to expectations is the one area that Molly is incredibly close-minded and judgemental against others about. (Or, if you’re her father, then pretty much anything qualifies for being close-minded about.)

Molly is an attention seeker, but despite having such an extended family, she has never felt lost. It is only in her immediate family that she has felt the need to seek attention. She's convinced that her parents have always been much more pleased with Lucy and is envious of her relationship with their father (which, not being a hot head, has always been civil, at the very least), but this isn't something that she holds against Lucy, nor is it something that she would ever admit to Lucy.

Molly is aptly described as a Mama Bear and all that the description entails – she is instinctively maternal and supportive of others, while also being fiercely protective against any slight. Beyond that though, she can become guilty of taking on a Mother Knows Best attitude and taking actions she thinks are in the best interest of her loved ones without consulting them. She also has a very difficult time recognizing that people who might have previously needed her protection, such as her sister, are no longer children and don’t need to be handled with kid gloves.

Because of this attitude, Molly tends to heavily censor herself from vocalising any feelings that she thinks might cause distress to those ¬she is protecting – typically her younger relatives, but blood isn’t the only qualifier for being one of Molly’s cubs. She maintains a thick armour of carefree jubilation and keeps her apprehensions and secrets to her more ‘adult’ companions – particularly her cousin Victoire when they’ve both had far too much to drink.

And what are these apprehensions and secrets? Molly is actually horribly torn apart by her relationship with her father. She resents him for making her feel inadequate, while desperately wanting his attention and approval. Convinced that he’ll never be satisfied with her, she actively rebels against him and demands his acceptance of her actions. What Molly is still too immature to realize is that her actions only serve to push him further away and were she actually to apply herself to something she loved (other than frustrating him), she might actually get the approval she is striving for. By far the most concerning part of Molly’s relationship with her father is that she lets it rule her life to the point that she never stops and asks herself what she wants. Quite possibly because if she did, she would be terrified to realize that she has no idea what the answer would be.

HISTORY
PRE-HOGWARTS

Molly Weasley had gently urged her daughter-in-law to name her first born daughter after her as grandparents-to-be are so eager to do. Fleur didn’t, and so when her next daughter-in-law became pregnant Molly once again oh-so-casually dropped hints about how very nice it would be if one of her grandchildren carried on her name. Percy, who was still doing penance for his behavior during the recent dark times, was all too willing to fulfill this request of his mother’s. Audrey, on the other hand, was not nearly so eager, but with enough pleading and other concessions, Percy (and Molly) got his wish.

Unfortunately for Percy, Molly (the younger) reminded him far more of his twin brothers in temperament than of his mother, and from the time she could walk, she never gave her parents a moment of pause. With some trepidation, Percy and Audrey gave it another go, and when Lucy turned out to be a much more agreeably tempered child, they determined that they wouldn’t push their luck any further and stopped at two daughters.

Percy had, of course, been hoping for a son to follow in his footsteps, but he was willing to make do with the two daughters that he had been given. Long before either girl had any idea what he was talking about, Percy was telling them how he was looking forward to the day that each of them would be Sorted into Gryffindor, be named Head Girl, and eventually walk into the Ministry side-by-side with their father as professional colleagues.

As for Audrey, she just wanted a break from Molly’s constant antics and insisted the girls attend Muggle primary school as much for their education as for her sanity. She was thoroughly mistaken in thinking getting Molly out of the house would alleviate some of her stresses, however. During the first parent-teacher meeting that Percy and Audrey attended, her teacher informed them that Molly had shown herself to be a delightfully bright and social student with a very vivid and detailed imagination. Upon further inquiry, they discovered that Molly had been telling anyone who would listen that she was a witch and so was her sister (so they had better not mess with Lucy) and that sometimes they walked into the fireplace to go visit their relatives who were all witches and wizards too. “Witches and Wizards” had even become a favorite playground game of all the children at the school.

Percy had a lot to say to his daughter about that one. After a very long lecture about the importance of the Statute of Secrecy (“but, Da, I didn’t actually use magic”) and various other Wizarding legalities, she instead changed her story to tell everyone that she was a werewolf. Legally, Percy had no objections. Her teacher, however, didn’t appreciate the increase in biting incidents.

HOGWARTS

As much as Molly had enjoyed Muggle primary school, she was not in the least bit sorry to give it up in favour of attending the highly anticipated Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. When the Sorting Hat was placed on her head, she informed it that she would die if she wasn’t made a Gryffindor and though it briefly debated sending her off to Ravenclaw, in the end Molly’s life was safe and she was sent off to sit by her cousin Victoire’s side at the Gryffindor table. Cosmic balances had been preserved and all Weasleys involved were happy.

This, unfortunately, would be the last time that Molly truly felt like she had pleased her father. She honestly did try those first couple years to be a model student, as every single owl she received from home reminded her to be. But Molly and revising simply didn’t mix and it wasn’t long before she determined that she possessed enough natural talent that she could waste most of her time playing games in the Common Room with her friends and still do ‘well enough’ to get by. ‘Well enough’, of course, was rather subjective and Molly’s school performance became the constant topic of any row between herself and her father.

The summer before fifth year came and went without any congratulatory letter informing Molly that she had received prefect status. This came as quite the blow to Percy and absolutely no surprise to Molly, though if put to Veritaserum questioning she would have admitted that it was a great disappointment to her as well. The return to Hogwarts was not nearly so joyous that year, but Molly soon found herself a new distraction in the form of the opposite sex. In particular, one extremely bookish, driven young man who completely ignored her existence no matter how loudly she spoke when she was next to him or how much Gobstone spit she ‘accidentally’ sent in his direction. (And was nothing like her father. Really.)

Determining this to be a failure, she instead changed her tactics and began reading her textbooks in very close proximity to him. Well, she made a good show of it anyway. Unable to ignore her invasion of his personal space any longer and deciding that perhaps she wasn’t entirely a fluffhead, he agreed to accompany her to Hogsmeade and they began dating soon after. When OWLs rolled around, all of the unintentional studying meant Molly didn’t simply do ‘well enough’ – she actually did ‘rather well’.

These final years at Hogwarts were met with a great deal of anxiety from her parents, despite her improving grades. Molly had deviated rather wildly from the course that Percy had plotted for her ever since her Sorting, and Lucy hadn’t fared much better. To keep the peace, she began reassuring her father that the idea of being a Ministry paper pusher absolutely delighted her. In truth, she was utterly consumed by the feeling that she was only seventeen years old and that was far too young to know what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. On the eve of her graduation from Hogwarts, she admitted to her boyfriend that she had no intentions whatsoever to go to work for the Ministry – that she needed time to find herself – and after a loud and lengthy row, he dumped her. The next day, Molly officially became a Hogwarts graduate with absolutely no future plans to speak of.

POST-HOGWARTS

Unbeknownst to Molly, Percy had been beaming with parental pride to anyone who would listen about his little girl joining him at the Ministry soon and his reaction to her news made her ex-boyfriend’s reaction seem mellow. She spent the next month bouncing between various family members’ homes and exchanging Howlers with her father until Molly (the elder) stepped in and read them both the riot act. In the end, Percy agreed to let Molly ‘find her way’ and Molly agreed to stop mooching off her family and get herself a job.

Molly took a job at the first place that would hire her and ended up as a waitress at The Three Broomsticks. It wasn’t glamorous, but it paid the bills. A year passed and then another. Percy was named Minister for Magic and when Lucy chose not to follow him to the Ministry either, terse owls between Molly and her father took the place of Howlers because, after all, there was an image to uphold.

Five years have passed since then and Molly is no closer to pleasing her father. If possible, she’s only gotten further. With the release of the WWN-TV, a whole new world of ways to upset her father opened up to Molly and Molly has become a familiar face on gaming and reality programming. After all, if the Minister for Magic’s daughter wants to make a fool of herself on the WWN-TV, there’s a bunch of ratings obsessed executives who aren’t going to stop her.

MISC.
How does your character feel about Wiztech? Molly is quite happy to leave politics to her father, so she gleefully ignores any rumours about Wiztech. As far as she is concerned, Wiztech is responsible for bringing out a whole new medium for her to bother her father with and that deserves an Outstanding mark in her book.

What are three things you would like to do with your character over the course of the game?

Appear on as many game shows as possible. Molly doesn't play to win. She plays to annoy her father and also have fun - which she genuinely does have. Molly's favorite game show is Wizard Wipeout and she hopes to make return appearances.
Get her shit together. I'd like to see Molly mature and realize that she needs to actually do something with her life beyond waitressing and television appearances. What this is career-wise, I don't know. There's a variety of things that would appeal to her - Ludicrous Patents Office would likely tickle her on the Ministry side of things, but a hosting job on something like Wizard Wipeout would also be fun.
Reconcile with her father. The catalyst for getting her shit together would probably be doing something incredibly stupid that crosses the line beyond simply annoyingly frequent television appearances. But eventually I'd like to see her suck it up and work things out with her father, just as her father had to do with his own family. Neither is likely to be pleased to realize they're more similar than they think.

NB: I've talked with Lucy's player and Victoire's applicant. I'm open to making changes if necessary. :)
